Acknowledgement of Country
Water Filtration Sydney acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we live and work.
Our work takes us across the Country of the Eora, Dharug, Dharawal, Gundungurra, Ku-ring-gai, Awabakal, Wiradjuri and many other Nations throughout Sydney and New South Wales. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have cared for these lands and waters for more than 65,000 years.
Why water matters here
Our trade is water. Clean water has been managed, protected and understood on this continent for tens of thousands of years, through knowledge of rivers, springs, soaks and seasons that long predates the pipes and meters we work with today. The Country we work on is criss-crossed by waterways that were, and remain, central to the life and culture of the people who belong to them.
We think it is worth saying plainly that the drinking water we filter comes from catchments and rivers that were cared for long before any of it was piped anywhere.
What this means for how we work
An acknowledgement is words. We try to back it with practice:
- Treating every property and the people in it with the same respect, wherever we are working.
- Working carefully on Country, minimising disturbance to ground and waterways.
